This medium provides accurate microbial counts in the fermentation process, offering optimal performance at a pH of 5.5, which is ideal for counting microbial populations during brewing and fermentation. The medium can also be adjusted to pH 6.5, which is better suited for counting bakers' and distillers' yeasts.
Additionally, Cycloheximide (SR0222) can be added to the medium at a final concentration of 4 mg/L, which suppresses yeast growth and makes the medium selective for bacterial contaminants in yeast cultures.
