The Liofilchem® Legionella BCYE Growth Supplement (Ref. 81056) is a lyophilized additive used in combination with Legionella CYE Agar Base (Refs. 610125, 620125) to prepare Buffered Charcoal Yeast Extract (BCYE) Agar, the standard medium for the detection and enumeration of Legionella species from clinical and environmental samples.

This supplement provides essential nutrients including L-cysteine, iron pyrophosphate, ACES buffer, potassium hydroxide, and alpha-ketoglutarate, all required to sustain and confirm the growth of Legionella spp. according to ISO 11731 water quality standards.

Preparation Instructions

1. Aseptically reconstitute one vial with 10 mL sterile distilled water.
2. Mix until fully dissolved.
3. Add to 90 mL of autoclaved, cooled Legionella CYE Agar Base (45–50 °C).
4. Mix thoroughly and dispense into Petri dishes.

Quality Control

• Legionella pneumophila WDCM 00107 → Good growth.
• Escherichia coli ATCC® 25922 → Good growth (control).
